You’re not wrong. I can clearly see the parallels as well. Funny as I was just thinking the other day of another evolution from Christianity to Atheism that I’ve sussed out in my own beliefs. I claim neither extreme, but to hear me talk about my beliefs, you may be confused as to where exactly I stand on the topic.
For me, it’s almost as if I’ve abstracted God-in-concept so much that it’s effectively nothing. I believe in something like God, but claim no knowledge of its exact nature. This should surely put me in the Agnostic camp. Yet I do claim to know one positive description of God’s nature, it is infinite. Therefore I will never see God, yet God is all I can possibly see. When following God all the way to infinity, you find that beyond infinity there is nothing. In fact, nothing and everything start to look a lot alike. It’s this deep paradox that I hold onto which makes me sound like a theistic atheist.
