We do love labels, don’t we? My sanity (the tatters of it that are left) is due to me “quiet quitting”. Basically I came to the conclusion that losing my job wasn’t the worst thing that could happen to me. So for at least two years, it’s been a quiet stand-off that only I appear to be aware of. The company gets the bare minimum from me. They’re lucky to get 20% of my attention, and that’s only if there’s a real problem affecting essential functionality. I work in IT remotely from home for a distribution center.

So what do I do? Ignore emails and IM’s if I don’t feel like responding. Objectively view problems from the lens of system functionality rather than who’s screaming the loudest, and prioritize only the most critical issues. I take a nap whenever I feel like. I play video games for most of the day while occasionally glancing at my work laptop. I roll up blunts and smoke during meetings while my camera and mic are turned off.

I dare them to fire me.

What I’ve noticed? That no one really notices my “absence”. They still think I’m a dedicated, hard working employee. So why was I going above and beyond before?

Yet another white dude with yet another opinion. Is that opinion founded in Wisdom? I don't know, you tell me.
