Very true! To be honest, I wrote that comment and read this article so long ago that I’ve forgotten the specifics, but I trust past me to have spoken true.
More to your specific point about reality being something we’re nested in… I agree and have thought quite a lot about it. I’ve mostly tried to tackle it from the angle of grounding our experience and concepts in that reality. But I have to consider that prospect from an embodied cognition point of view, because clearly our experiences and concepts are mediated by our bodies/brains.
The best framework I’ve found for making sense of that perspective is Lakoff and Johnson’s Metaphorical Cognition theory. It’s a bit old at this point so there may be better theories out now.
