These are the birthing pangs of a new system. Yet no one knows what that new system looks like, not even Marx or Engels. When Lenin succeeded in the Soviet revolution, they looked to Marx for the next step and found nothing of practical use. So they tended toward authoritarianism. They thought the only problem was the greed of the bourgeoisie. When really the problem is consolidation of power. Power needs to be checked, and if our government won’t do it, the people will. Any system that we design in the future will need to have strong checks on all forms of power; political, economic, physical, psychological, and spiritual. I fear we alive today won’t live to see the promised land, but we must try and build towards it for our children, grandchildren, and the generations to come.
