Thank you Jodie and AA’s! I was actually going to ask about this specific verse as well, but life has its ways of distracting.

My question for the AA’s is whether or not they could elucidate what Yeshua actually said in his original language that sparked this verse. I’ve tried to do my own research into this, but unfortunately the surviving historical record is a translation of a translation, so his original words are lost to us.

My hunch is that what was translated into Greek as “ego” was originally spoken in Aramaic or perhaps even Hebrew as Yahweh, which the Jewish audience to which Yeshua spoke would understand to be God. But a Greek translator may not have understood this nuance. I have a further hunch that Yeshua was trying to get his audience to see that God is within, but I’m overstepping the available evidence and that’s a further mystery of Jewish mysticism which we need not delve into here.

Either way, the meaning of the verse as the AA’s explained it is identical to the meaning that I have come to understand from it as well. So I guess my hunches are moot at this point. I don’t need my intellectual curiosity to be sated, but it’d be cool to know anyway 😃🤷‍♂️

Yet another white dude with yet another opinion. Is that opinion founded in Wisdom? I don't know, you tell me.
