I’m actually currently drafting a “Why I’m not a Christian” essay, and the doctrine of original sin and atonement indeed are two of the central pillars that I no longer believe in. Therefore I can’t call myself a Christian anymore.
Yes, I do just see Jesus as “merely” a good teacher and a wholly misunderstood one at that.
I think, and this is just my opinion and is obviously shared by others, that in order to get back to what Jesus was actually trying to teach us, then we do need to do away with the “savior role”. Does this mean we have to get rid of our Christian faith and label? For me it does. But I’d happily sacrifice a label and a false faith for wisdom.
Wisdom is far more valuable to me than faith and labels and participation in a social institution.
