I feel it too man. I’ve watched it destroy the brilliant mind of one of my good friends. I’m resigning myself to acceptance and a “wait and see” mentality.

I’m not a blind optimist. I recognize that fascism and totalitarianism were temporarily defeated last century, but not without the cost of millions of lives. I hate that it takes that. I hate that we’re heading straight towards another conflict that may have an even greater costs, perhaps all of us and who knows how many species of innocent flora and fauna.

Call me a misanthropist, but I have longed believed that there is nothing sacred about human life. We’re a blip, barely a speck of dust in the grand scheme of the universe. There’s nothing special about us. That barely takes the sting out of all of this however.

Maybe we intellectuals and far-seers need to check our hubris of thinking we actually matter. But I do know life will continue, with or without us humans.

So I sit here in acceptance. I will continue to fight and think and learn and educate to the best of my ability. Why? Does it freaking matter in the end? No, it really doesn’t. But it is my nature, and I must do what I am. You continue doing what you feel is best. We’ll likely die and never see the promised land. But that’s okay. At least you wrote a book. At least you have continued to write and document this swirling, flushing of democracy and liberalism. Perhaps, if humanity survives this next century, which I believe it will, then maybe you will have contributed to the cautionary tale. You will have given them something to work with.

For us however… we’re screwed.

Yet another white dude with yet another opinion. Is that opinion founded in Wisdom? I don't know, you tell me.
