Here I go again, spouting my heresies in a Medium comment…. I interpret Jesus’s words differently when he said “I am the way…”. I can’t help but wonder what His original spoken words were, and not the Greek translation of them. Could He have said “Yahweh”, which also translates as “I am”, and meant the Father rather than Himself? Or could He have meant that “I” in the sense is subjective truth, that we should seek the truth within? Not in an egotistical sense, but a more grounded and communal/shared experience of God sense? I guess we’ll never know what He meant exactly. But the Jesus that I worship doesn’t seem like He’d set Himself up that way. It doesn’t feel like it goes along with his teachings and actions.
