Amen! My personal beliefs take this a couple of steps further. If God spoke existence into being, then existence is literally God’s Word. We, including the dirt beneath our feet, are the eternal song that God is singing.
Taking it one step further into heretical territory, I believe I literally am God, and so are you, and so is the dirt and grime, and so are the assholes that wind us up. It’s hard to be angry with someone or hate someone if you believe they are God. It’s hard to be an asshole if you believe you’re only being an asshole to yourself.
I believe this to be the core of Jesus’s teachings. When He said that that the poor and infirm were Him, I think he was trying to feed us baby food to get us to see the divinity within and without. I know the majority of religious folk would balk at identifying themselves as God. However, it is not without support.
I began this path by studying pantheistic philosophies. It was a nifty thought experiment that didn’t truly transform me, though. It wasn’t until I began studying eastern religions and specifically the Tao te Ching that it finally began to click for me.
I am now a believer in non-dualism, that the separation between us and God and each other (and the planet Earth and the rest of the universe for that matter) are illusory distractions that we continue to create for ourselves. It’s not like we mean to do this, and I do believe there is a purpose why God is having us learn this lesson from these finite perspectives. It’s mind-blowing, I know. I think we need our minds blown, so we’ll stop thinking, fearing, predicting, doubting, and hating; so that we can get on with trusting, loving, and living.
I’m probably wrong though. Don’t listen to the heretic! 😝
